The Rose now based in Ensenada , Mexico invites applications/resumes for the post of Professional/experienced Deckhand(s). For filming of the Patrick O'Brian classic The Far Side of the World, immediate openings for 15 deckhands to work both aboard Rose at sea and on the studio set ship in the tank at Fox/Baja. Applicants should have no fear of heights, long days (& nights), or hard work that alternates between challenging and tedious. Rigging skills a plus. Pay $100+/day; hotel and transportation provided. More Details: Between May and November the Tall Ship Rose will be engaged in the making of the Peter Weir directed film of the Patrick O'Brian novel The Far Side of the World. The film will star Russell Crowe and a large cast of actors portraying sailors aboard an 1806 British frigate. The story takes place almost entirely at sea. Professional Rose crew will lead and teach shipboard skills to actors, maintain the ship and operate the ship during filming. Many crew will appear as film extras for which additional pay is anticipated. Base pay is expected to exceed the typical nonprofit sail training industry standard. Meals and housing will be provided. Applicants should be confident of working long hours aloft. Strong traditional sailing skills are required. The ideal candidates will be between approximately 18 and 25 years old with better than average upper body strength. A commitment for the duration of the project is necessary.
