You are now standing on the quarterdeck of Rose, on the starboard side looking forward. This is typically where Captain Bailey stands while the ship is docking. While the ship is underway, this is the domain of the officer of the watch and the captain if he happens to be on deck. A crew member will be at the wheel and others might come back to the quarterdeck for routine work or during sail evolutions, but generally they congregate in the waist.

As you look around you'll see the engine controls, the companion ladder leading down to the great cabin, and the compass, currently with the binnacle covering it. Can you spot the mizzen mast and boom?

You'll see the mizzen shrouds on both sides with the life rings on them. You can see the wheel just next to where you stand. On the opposite side is generally the position of the helmsman. From that position, he or she can keep an eye on the sails, the compass, and get a good view of any vessels or landmarks to steer by.
